How We Do Business
We are committed to providing clear and transparent information about the cost of engaging our services.
Our clerks will assist you in identifying the most suitable barrister for your case and provide guidance on likely fees, whether you are a professional client or instructing us directly.
Based on the information you provide, and where the case falls within our areas of expertise, we are able to offer fee estimates both verbally and in writing, typically via email.
Public Funding
Many criminal clients are eligible for publicly funded representation through the Legal Aid scheme, also known as Representation Orders issued by the Legal Aid Agency.
In such cases, clients will instruct a solicitor who will liaise with Chambers to identify and instruct an appropriate barrister.
Private Funding
Clients who do not qualify for public funding, or who choose to fund their case privately, may instruct a barrister directly or through a solicitor.
Our clerks will advise on:
The most appropriate barrister for your case
Availability, both current and ongoing
The likely cost of representation
Fee Structures
We offer two primary pricing models for privately funded work:
Fixed fees
Hourly rates
In some cases, a combination of both may be used. For example, preparation charged at an hourly rate alongside fixed daily attendance fees.
All fees are clearly explained by our clerks at the outset. Where applicable, barristers will provide a written log of work completed, including time and dates.
Factors Affecting Fees
When assessing fees, the following factors are considered:
Case complexity
Barrister seniority
Circumstances of the case, including public importance
Volume of documentation and preparation required
Likely duration of the case and any trial
Alternative Fee Arrangements
We regularly agree tailored fee structures, including:
Whole case fees
Fixed brief fees with daily refresher fees
Hourly preparation rates with fixed court attendance fees
Flexible payment terms can also be discussed with our clerks at an early stage.

Timescales for legal assistance may vary depending on:
