Overview

Our Chambers has a well established practice in road traffic and driving offences, acting for defendants in cases ranging from summary only matters in the Magistrates’ Court to the most serious offences prosecuted in the Crown Court. Members are regularly instructed in cases where the consequences for defendants are significant, including loss of liberty, lengthy disqualification, and serious professional or personal impact.

We have extensive experience in defending allegations of causing death or serious injury by dangerous or careless driving, as well as cases involving dangerous driving, drink driving, drug driving, failing to provide specimens, and driving whilst disqualified or uninsured. These cases frequently involve complex evidential issues, including accident reconstruction, forensic collision analysis, toxicology evidence, and expert opinion on driving standards and causation.

Our barristers are particularly skilled in cases where liability is disputed, whether through challenges to the reliability of expert collision evidence, the interpretation of speed, braking and visibility data, or the conduct of other road users. We regularly scrutinise police procedure, roadside testing, breathalyser and blood analysis evidence, and the lawfulness of stops and arrests, identifying procedural or evidential flaws that can be determinative of the outcome.

Chambers also has experience in road traffic cases involving aggravating features such as serious injury, fatalities, multiple vehicles, vulnerable road users, or allegations of excess speed and prolonged bad driving. Members are adept at handling sensitive cases involving bereaved families and significant public interest, balancing firm defence advocacy with professionalism and care.

In addition to trial advocacy, our barristers provide strategic advice on pleas, Newton hearings, special reasons arguments, exceptional hardship applications and sentencing advocacy. We are regularly instructed to mitigate in cases where defendants face mandatory disqualification, custody, or devastating consequences for employment and family life.

Solicitors trust our Chambers to deliver clear, pragmatic and effective representation in road traffic matters. Whether dealing with technical defences, expert heavy prosecutions or carefully prepared mitigation, our advocates bring precision, judgment and persuasive courtroom advocacy to every case.
